Affinity Fraud

Affinity fraud is a type of investment scam that targets members of identifiable groups, such as religious communities, ethnic groups, or professional organizations. Scammers gain the trust of group members by posing as fellow members or supporters.

These fraudsters typically promise high returns with little risk and use the trust within the community to recruit new victims. For example, a scammer might join a religious group and convince members to invest in a fake scheme, using early investors' returns (funded by new investors' money) to create the illusion of legitimacy.

Affinity fraud is particularly devastating because it destroys trust within communities. To protect yourself, always verify investment opportunities with licensed financial professionals and regulatory authorities, regardless of who is promoting them.
