Darurah

Darurah means "necessity" in Islamic law. It is a principle that allows Muslims to do something normally prohibited if their survival, health, or essential well-being depends on it.

The classic example: eating pork is forbidden in Islam, but if someone is starving and no other food is available, Darurah permits it to preserve life. The principle follows the maxim: "Necessity makes the prohibited permissible."

In Islamic banking, Darurah is invoked when no Shariah compliant alternative exists for an essential financial need. However, it is applied very carefully and only in genuine cases — not as a loophole for convenience.
