A Key Performance Indicator — KPI for short — is a measurable metric that tells you how successfully you're hitting your goals. Think of it as a scorecard for your business or marketing efforts. KPIs give you concrete numbers to track progress rather than relying on gut feelings.

Here's an example: say you sell clothes online and your goal is to sell 500 pieces per month. At the end of the month, you check and see you sold 200 pieces. That sales number is your KPI — it tells you exactly how far you are from your target. You can then analyze why you fell short and adjust your strategy.

Every business sets KPIs based on their unique goals. Are you trying to increase sales? Drive more website traffic? Boost email subscribers? Your KPIs will differ accordingly. The biggest advantage of KPIs is they help you track progress accurately. You can see exactly where you're falling behind and where you're excelling. In short, KPIs are the thermometer for measuring your business health.
