Funnel

In digital marketing, a funnel describes the process where a regular person gradually becomes your customer through different stages. Think of it like an actual funnel — you pour a lot of water in at the top, but only some comes out the bottom. The same happens with your website or ad: lots of people see it, but only a few end up buying or taking action.

The word funnel comes from that exact visual. At the awareness stage, many people discover your brand. As they move through interest, consideration, and finally purchase, the numbers drop at each step. For example, 1,000 people might visit your product page, 100 add items to cart, but only 20 complete the purchase. That's a 2% conversion funnel.

Understanding your funnel helps you spot where people drop off. If lots of visitors reach checkout but don't complete the order, you might have a problem with shipping costs or a complicated form. By analyzing each stage, you can fix bottlenecks and improve your conversion rate. That's why the funnel is one of the most critical tools in digital marketing.
